Team India Wins First Test By an Innings and 115 Runs

Off-spinner R Ashwin bowling (12 wickets for 85 runs) on the back of India Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, New Zealand in the first Test by an innings and 115 runs to beat. With this victory, India took a 1-0 lead in the two match series.

India scored 438 runs in the first innings in reply to New Zealand's first innings 159 and second innings scored a paltry 164 runs. 85 runs off-spinner Ashwin in Chennai Top 12 wickets. For this performance he was awarded Man of the Match.

New Zealand by 52 runs in the second innings Williamson's belligerent innings, but they could not save the team from an innings defeat. Ashwin deadly bowling for the Kiwi team succumbed fourth day of the match.

57 years later it is the first time India has won the New Zealand innings. The second and final match of the series will be played in Bangalore from August 31.
